Deodorant/Antiperspirant - Something we could all stand to know more about!

There is a lot of information out there on the dangers of using deodorants and antiperspirants. Here is the basics of why I recommend you DON'T use them -

They contain harmful chemicals. That in and of itself ought to be enough reason, but there is more - and understanding the lymph system in our bodies will be helpful.

Our bodies contain a fluid called lymph, it's primary responsibility is cleansing the blood. When it cleans the blood, it takes the wastes and toxins to what are called lymph nodes, where the toxins are neutralized and expelled from our bodies. When we have an overabundance of waste, the lymph gets clogged up, the lymph nodes get overworked and full, and this often results in sickness. Ever notice the glands swelling in your neck when you have a cold? That is what that is. Not to mention when we aren't getting adequate movement and circulation our lymph gets sluggish and stuck, causing issues as well.

We have almost quadruple the amount of lymph in our bodies than blood. It runs in a system much like our blood does through the body, with a heavy responsibility. Especially when the body is full of toxins and waste from what we eat and put on ourselves. The lymph in my opinion is almost more important to take care of than our blood.

Our armpits are one of the most concentrated places in our body of lymph nodes, right next to the breast which is also full of them.  Making sure we keep the lymph flowing good is important, and keeping it clean too! That is why putting toxins and chemicals right there in such a heavily concentrated place is not the best idea, in fact a very bad one. One of the main ingredients that we are slathering on is aluminum. This is a known neurotoxin also found in baking powder and immunizations. Our body cannot get rid of this heavy metal, so any amount that goes in just builds and builds disrupting our bodies natural ability and process.

What to do?

I personally have not used any deodorant or antiperspirant for over 3 years now, and it is so great! How do I not stink or drip sweat you ask? Here are some things that I have learned and implemented....

A good clean healthy diet. This is key to keeping body odor a thing of the past. Processed food, dairy, sugar etc. are all things that contribute to your body getting gunked up with dead thick mucus and holding toxins and waste inside. Just like your house, if you let garbage pile up, it will stink! Keep the garbage to a minimum and clean often, and you will have no foul odor :)

Lots of water! Water intake should be an ounce of water per pound that you weigh. So if you weigh 120 pounds, then you will drink 120 oz. Keep in mind if you eat a lot of fruit and vegetables, that that contributes to your water intake, so you won't have to drink as many oz. But if you drink a lot of pop and other things, then you need to make sure you are getting this minimum!! Water cleanses and purifies, and washes out the unwanted waste from your body, along with all the other great things it does!

Essential Oils - There are some great essential oils that act as deodorants and antiperspirants, and as always are totally safe and natural. And not only that, they help to support your lymph system in draining, circulating and cleansing - so a lot of bonuses too!

A few ideas for oils;

  • Petitgrain is a fabulous oil for deodorizing AND eases excessive perspiration.

  • Sage also can help regulate perspiration - reducing it where it is excessive and promoting it when inadequate. Remember, sweating is one of the ways your body eliminates toxins, so it is healthy and good to sweat a bit!

  • Cypress has a similar regulating action as Sage, particularly for men.

Here are some recipes you can mix up and use instead of filling your body with harmful toxins - ( These recipes are taken from Nature's Farmacy - a guidebook to the use of essential oils. I HIGHLY recommend you purchasing a copy! It goes through ailments in alphabetical order, directing you on what oils you can use and other great info.! I call it my Essential Oil bible - priceless! 1. My cousin has been telling me for years how unhealthy these products are to use. I do have one question for you, what can I use instead of the lavander oil? I am allergic to it and it breaks me out when I use anything that has it in its ingredients.
